In the heart of Europe, Liguria lies between the mountains and the sea. This land overlooking the Mediterranean is full of beauties. The hinterland is an important cultural heritage and coastal life is welcoming and enchanting.
From west to east, its landscapes change from time to time and are full of surprises: the majestic Maritime Alps to the west, the Cinque Terre villages overlooking the sea in the province of La Spezia, but also an ancient city rich in history like Genoa or the sunny beaches of Alassio, or Santa Margherita and Portofino, both in the charming Gulf of Tigullio.
There are many treasures to discover: from the most famous cities, such as Sanremo, in the province of Imperia, to hidden beauties, such as the cold villages of Noli and Varigotti, not far from Savona.
The blue Ligurian Sea is populated by whales - which is why you can find the Whale Sanctuary here - and is surrounded by a green sea made up of parks where air, nature and flavors are still uncontaminated, as in the Aveto valley.
Liguria is easily accessible, is connected to the main cities of Northern Italy and borders with France. Today Genoa airport is a primary hub with many international flights.
Genoa is a lively and authentic city, which offers the visitor a wide range of experiences, mixing the richness of a capital of art and culture, UNESCO World Heritage, the charm of the sea and the suggestions of its colors and flavors.
Lose yourself in the labyrinth of narrow streets called "caruggi" and you will find majestic palaces, precious museums and marvelous churches, as well as old shops full of flavors and crafts; you will also feel the delicious scent of pesto and freshly baked focaccia.
In the Porto Antico area, renovated by Renzo Piano in 1992, the most important Aquarium in Europe takes you into the deepest sea, while the Bigo makes you fly high above the city, 40 meters high, to enjoy a view breathtaking.
You can move vertically with lifts and funiculars to reach the hill and the ancient fortresses, or walk along the coast, from Nervi to Pegli, finding rocky cliffs, historic parks and small and refined museums.
